The name Yachats, pronounced Yah-hots, is derived from the Chinook Indian word Yahuts that means “dark water at the foot of the mountain”.  This fitting name describes the picturesque landscape found here.  The thick evergreen forest that saturates the hillside here meets the crashing waves of the Pacific at its base.  The visual splendor of this coastal destination keeps visitors coming back for more.
