Recent Reviews About This Property

I'd love to go back!

"What a perfect place! Four members of my family (adult siblings) enjoyed staying at the Captain John's while attending a family gathering. The house was comfortable. Loved the fireplace on our one rainy day. (And being from dry CA---we loved the rain too!). It was an easy walk to the heart of the village. WiFi was good. We did have a maintenance issue---but the company responded so promptly that they turned a possible neg. into a positive. I'd love to go back! "

" This quaint home had a well stocked kitchen and plenty of beds for a large family. It is walking distance from downtown and the beach. Well worth the price. "

Kristine L. from Rainier, 04/07/2017

"Kristine, Thank you for your review for your visit to Captain John's Cannon Beach. You described the home perfectly, quaint and that adds to the charm of this home. It has the old welcome home feel and glad to know guest recognize this. The home is located in a great location with lots of wildlife around but yet close to the downtown area of Cannon Beach and the beach access close by. Again, thank you Kristine and we hope to hear back from you to assist in planning your next coastal getaway. "

"Nice place. Spacious and lots for room for the kids to run around in. Only thing missing was a bbq grill. We should've brought one with us. Next time. "

Kim E. from Everett, 04/09/2017

"Thank you Kim for your review. We are pleased to know that you and your family enjoyed this older, quaint home with charm. I believe the bbq had been stored away due to the weather conditions in the Cannon Beach area. Enjoyed reading the "next time" so sounds like a visit in the future to this home and we would love to assist you with booking for your next coastal getaway. Again, thank you Kim."

"The house is well maintained and pretty well located. lose to the creek, not so much the ocean - NO view. We have a bit of trouble entering the house. The people answering the phones were not always as helpful as they might be. The kitchen sink dripped as did the tub."

"I thought this was a really nice house. And within a walk to the beach or shops or restaurants. Also, out of the way of summer traffic.

The house is a bit old but everything was clean and it all worked. And the decorating was great.

The upstairs bathroom doesn't have a shower but the downstairs one does. So, really a 1.75 bathrooms in this house. Also, the stairs to get to the 2nd floor are a bit narrow.

Some of the features not obvious is the front of the house in enclosed porch with a lot of room. There really isn't a backyard but this makes up for it. Also, a cool feature is flipping a switch to turn on the fireplace.

Would definitely come back. Perfect stay for two families."

"This place worked great for 4 sets of couples and a dog to enjoy. Great location and quiet. Tons of towels and blankets!"

from SEATTLE, 07/25/2017

"The location was perfect for us because we wanted to walk to town and spend time by the river. However, the trash was full when we arrived and there was trash on the grill including 3 cigar butts. Someone also left a bag of dog poop on the front porch. We did not have a can opener the first night and could not locate the wifi password on any information in the home. We tried calling property management and could not reach anyone so we had to contact the owners. They gave us the password. Management delivered the can opener the next day. The second morning we were there a crew started working on the gutters with loud banging and didn't even come knock on the door to advise us. Outside of all of that it was a fun time. "

"5 friends (and 3 wives) gathered together in this wonderful house (and a superb location!) to celebrate and tell tons of stories accumulated over the last 50 years. 5 guys who had stayed close since the years at Wilson High School in Portland spent 2 nights in this very roomy, comfy older beach house and the memories continue. Thank you for such a nice stay and easy booking system!!!"

"We had the best stay at your rental property. It was well equipped with all we needed. It worked our very well for the two families that were staying there and enough space for everyone to sleep.

If there was a downfall it would be that some of the inside could be a bit cleaner. Generally speaking it was "good enough" but to have that extra touch of cleanliness would have made our stay all the more better.
Just a few examples would be crumbs in the kitchen drawers, you can just tell that certain parts of the house hadn't been cleaned in quite a while. Or the rug in the main room there was tons of sand under it so you know that it hadn't been vacuumed in quite a while. A really good cleaning periodically would come a long way. All in all we would definitely rent captain john's cannon beach house again. Thank you. Angela"

"Cannon Beach is always a great destination. Like any beach trip, clear weather is preferred, but we were undaunted by the foggy and hazy days we had. Unfortunately, the housekeeper failed to provide adequate toilet paper because she failed to bring any when checking on the place and cleaning it between rentals. We also noted the upstairs bath had issues with the sing and tub faucets--which made bathing and brushing teeth an adventure in improvisation. The Labor day holiday probably affected the ability to get that addressed as promptly as it might have been otherwise. I did not like having a plumber sent to the house just as we were going out as I do not like allowing anyone into a place when we were not planning to be there especially when the Management team had not advised us to expect anyone in advance and whether that person could be left in an unattended home. Therefore, we told him the timing was off and asked if he could return in a couple of hours while we went out to eat. He said he could not. Someone from the management team should have accompanied him or met him at the property so all would be in order and the home secured during repairs. The place is great for a family with kids, but I also noted that complaints about inadequate household supplies --like toilet paper were frequently logged into the guestbook at the home. It is the little things that make people comfortable. We would stay again because it is a quaint place and very convenient to the beach and to Ecola. We also liked the fact it was in a quiet area of the town. "

"We had a great stay in this beach house. The location is fantastic - short walk to the beach and into Cannon beach for the shops & restaurants. Character property with plenty of space for everyone. We could have done with some portable fans upstairs as when we stayed, it was super hot and the only fan is a ceiling fan in the living room. Otherwise, a fabulous stay!"

from Auckland, 09/30/2017

"We had a very fun time at the beach. This house had very little charm and character on the inside leaving it feeling like a money making rental rather than a home. The oven burners were all tilted and the oven temperature was off by 50 degrees. Later after we overcooked our roast we saw someone had placed a thermometer inside. The upstairs carpet is very stained. It's a nice place but after the owners, VRBO and the property managers take their cut, it's priced high for what it is. "
