Astoria

Astoria Bridge

Located where the Columbia River flows into the Pacific Ocean, Astoria, Oregon is the oldest settlement west of the Rockies. This coastal community is famous for being the first west coast town to have a post office! Occupying the west end of the Lewis and Clark Trail, Astoria is also home to Fort Clatsop and Fort Stevens State Park.

When visiting Astoria travelers are reminded of simpler times. In recent years, the downtown area has been revived with a 1920’s feel. Enjoy a ride on the Astoria riverfront trolley on your way to visit the Columbia River Maritime Museum.  Or, take a stroll through downtown being sure to take in the sites including Astoria’s growing art district.

An interesting piece of Astoria trivia is that this historic northwest destination was home to many Scandinavian settlers. These settlers still inhabit the area and are recognized annually with a Scandinavian Festival.  Everyone is invited to participate in this celebration of heritage!

Astoria is a fine vacation choice for those who want to experience part of history on their vacation.
