Disappointed, should have read the older reviews
by Shenna S.
If your looking for privacy, as we were, your not going to get that here, the owners live in the main house. If you look at the pictures of the house with the deck, what your renting is the 400sqft living space with the sliding glass door below and two big windows on top. To the left the owners lives. They keep the blinds shut for privacy, but you don\'t feel it. Yes, the place is small but fine for us (4 adults would be extremely tight). The beds need a major update, 1st floor bed is firm with the added bonus of feeling the bedsprings and the 2nd floor bed is very soft. The shower is small with little elbow room, my husband is 5\'8\" and it was hard for him to take a shower, the water came up to his chest. I would suggest putting in a hand held shower head. One of the recliners looked like it was broken so I didn\'t even try it the other my husbands tried and it reclined him so far back he was laying flat. That window also didn\'t have the best view the owners roof top took most of it. We were highly disappointed with the lack of waves crashing on the cliff even at hightide. There\'s a rock set off from the cliff that gets excellent wave explosion but you can only see it from the other window, the owners get most of the view. We did see a whale passing through during breakfast which is always cool to see. The place was clean, and provided majority of what you need bowls, plates, coffee mugs/glasses, utensils, dish soap/sponge, packets of detergent, pans, coffee maker (you will need to bring coffee, creamer & sugar), floor fan, extra bedding/pillows. The sliding glass door does lock and there\'s plenty of grass space for your dogs to do there business, also basic cable (10 channels maybe). Overall it was ok, but for the lack of privacy, bad beds, no waves crashing on the cliff and price (over $600 for 2 nights), we will not be staying here again. Do read the older reviews (2020) there\'s not much that has changed.
This was the perfect setting for what we wanting - an unobstructed view of the ocean, with the sights and sounds of the ocean all day long
by Louie & Terry besenyody
This was the perfect setting for what we wanting - an unobstructed view of the ocean, with the sights and sounds of the ocean all day long. Bruce and Barbara were so sweet and greeted us with Valentine's candy and a birthday gift for me the next day. They gave us all the privacy we wanted, but also visited with us as well which we GREATLY ENJOYED. The home is very cozy and we loved the two propane fireplaces. It was also very nice to have the washer and dryer right there on the main floor. The upstairs "open area" was great for watching the waves crashing and the beautiful sunsets. We enjoyed watching the ocean while we played cards with our friends. This was the perfect place and the perfect week! We will be going back next year. We hated leaving!!

This home has been very thoughtfully outfitted with games, books, movies and a well equipped little kitchen. We had a great time playing games, watching movies and relaxing. The most impressive feature to this home is the view! The waves crash explosively on the rocks and the spray washes the windows! Beautiful. Thank you for having us and our two dogs.
We just got back from our second stay at this house
by Jillian Matney
We just got back from our second stay at this house. I always hate leaving here. You simply cannot beat the view and atmosphere at this house. The sunsets are incredible, the every single day whale sightings from the deck or upstairs windows are unreal. If you are looking for an over the top luxury property this is not for you. If you are looking for an incredible location with a cozy feel, you will love this property. You can't beat sitting in a cozy chair in the morning drinking coffee while watching whales feed near the house. Can't wait to go back again.

We had a great stay @ whale Pointe & would highly recommend it!! Awesome ocean front location with outstanding views. From the deck views to well...the deck views. Love, love, love this place!
Serene view, needs deep cleaning
by Daniel S.
This property was as advertised by previous reviewers: Serene, stunning view, but janky layout and not clean. My wife and I stayed here for 11 nights and got along fine. The kitchen is small, but serviceable. The view and outdoor spaces are tremendous. But the window frames and the floors were filthy. Here’s some advice: People staying on the ocean are going to open the windows, so clean the window tracks. Also, the size was fine for a couple, and maybe a small family, but would not recommend for two couples.

A nice stay overall. I would stay there again.
Love the location
by Anonymous
Location is wonderful: We love it. Property is as described: Small, comfortable. Tiny kitchen but not an issue for us. Clean and moderately well maintained: Its age shows in some places. Wifi did not work. If you go for the location, as we do, this is a great spot. We appreciate a couple of improvements since our last stay: 2 new recliners (though tricky to operate, be careful). New place to sit alongside the deck is a great addition.

Whale Pointe does not disappoint!!
by Geri J.
Went to stay four days! Ended up staying five more days! Didn't see any whales the whole time! But it was the last of their migration. Stayed for the king tides! Amazing waves came all the way up to the deck! Saw some snow, a lightning storm, of course a rainbow . Fifty mile an hour winds! The whole house shakes from the waves hitting the Rocky shoreline. Very comfortable with the new furniture. Can't wait to come back here! Five minutes from Depot Bay.

Lipstick on a pig
by Joy L.
We had an unpleasant experience at the Whale House in Depoe Bay. When we got there we noticed several areas that were not clean. All of the window sills were dirty and most had dead insects. There was dirt/garbage between the refrigerator and the cabinets. The carpet upstairs was heavily stained as well. Further, the house did not look nearly as good as the photos. It is a small room/kitchen/bathroom downstairs then you walk through a door into a breezeway that has stairs leading up to the living room/loft. There was a mysterious door in the breezeway that locked from the other side so we were a little anxious that someone could get in to our area. The sliding glass door did not lock. Luckily someone. had left a small decorative stick I was able to put in the track along with a cutting board to keep anyone from opening the slider from the outside. The blinds were all broken or in very poor shape. When we discovered the dead insects and dirt I called to complain, within one hour of our arrival. They did offer to have someone come clean but for multiple reasons we didn’t feel comfortable with someone being there with us or while we were gone. In the end I requested a partial refund and was offered two nights at another property, limited selection to pick from. Then found out it would cost us approximately $200 to get those free nights as we would have to pay the cleaning fee AND their reservation fee! So it wasn’t really a free two night stay. I didn’t want to pay $200 for a mediocre rental and I had to sign something. saying I wouldn’t post any reviews. I declined. They then offered $50. Its not worth $50 to me to not be able to leave an honest review. I don’t want others to get surprised like I did when I showed up for the stay. Their marketing and photographer did a great job as I expected a much nicer rental than what we ended up with.

Great location, okay house
by Anonymous
We visited in early October. The deck of this house is wonderful, practically hanging over the ocean, and you get a 180+ degree view. We enjoyed eating out on the deck and having cocktails while the sun went down.
The owner’s live in the building that shares the deck, but they kept their blinds closed and have a separate deck, and we never saw them.
The downstairs bedroom is small but has a wonderful view and a comfortable bed. We wished there was a screen on the sliding door so we could hear the waves at night.
The kitchen is quite small and basically stocked but you’ll need to bring larger pots or pans if you need them.
The house arrangement is a little odd. The eating area is upstairs and because the kitchen is downstairs, the stairs are steep and we are 70, that was not very workable. The view from upstairs is great but there’s not very good ventilation and it was very warm. The upstairs bed is very, very soft. We couldn’t sleep up there anyway because those same stairs were between there and the bathroom.
I think the house would work better for younger people.

Great location and view
by Heather C.
Unbeatable location and view of the ocean. We spent most of our time upstairs where the view of the ocean is best. The furniture and appliances are old. Several kitchen appliances were broken and there were dead flies around the windows. If you’re just looking for an amazing view of the ocean and can look past old furniture and appliances, this place for you!

Beautiful View - Not Much More
by Anonymous
Listing indicated house was small, and small it was. It was sparsely outfitted with limited small furniture. There were not many kitchen necessities. If you had four people there would not have been enough utensils for everyone to have dinner. And to eat dinner inside the only table is upstairs, with three chairs. If it was raining and you had to be inside, barely enough places for people to sit confortably . Sliding glass door did not lock. There were no working outside lights. Rental company indicated there was a propane grill but it was disgustingly dirty and barely any propane. Rental company would not refund last night as we had to leave early for a sudden family matter. The view is beautiful, but honestly that is about all.

Trip of a Lifetime
by Jeanne C.
Loved staying at Whale Pointe! We sat on the outside deck the first evening and just watched the everchanging waves crashing on the rocks below us. The cabin was perfect! Had everything we needed for a getaway for the 2 of us. The only thing not good was sometime during our 1st night there an alarm started beeping. I figured it was a bad battery, but could not find what was beeping! Finally the next morning we found the carbon monoxide alarm needed new batteries. We let the management company know and they said they would get it taken care of. We were under gale warnings for a couple of days, but it was awe inspiring to watch!

View Amazing - Need to replace Mattresses
by Anonymous
Everything was perfect for our stay except the mattresses on the beds. The bed downstairs had a big dent in it from repeated use and the one upstairs was barely a mattress. It made me more tired when I got home.
We absolutely loved the view and eating out on the deck during the nice weather and it was clean and we could bring our dogs.
I would come again if the beds were replaced.
Fantastic Views!

My son and I stayed for three days, and loved every minute. You don't need to even go to the beach with the views on this deck. Everything was perfect. We hope to visit again.

We arrived around 7pm after a long drive. The key lock did not work, so we unable to get the key. fortunately the home owner was there and gave us her extra set of keys. The management company did not answer. The space is small but do-able. The kitchen is a kitchenette, with limited pans for cooking. The fridge is a small under the counter type, so don't bring large packages of food. We used our cooler on the deck. The deck is accessable from the bedroom on the main floor, just off the kitchen. Upstairs is a good view with table and chairs, hide-a-bed, and queen bed. The electric fireplace quit working while we were there, and did not get fixed. There was an additional heater for use. We called about a frayed cord for the lamp, and they responded that day for a repair. The whole place needed a deep clean. There is no dishwasher. We washed several pans and utensils before using them ourselves. If you plan to make meals, you may consider bringing mixing bowls and pans to bake your item in. There is a toaster and coffee maker.
The kitchen and entry room could easily be made more useful by adding in some shelves and hooks for items such as coats and cookware. There is no direct beach access, which we did not realize when booking, so a drive of a few miles (4-6) is needed to get to a beach. But, the location is private.

A Nice Place To Visit
by Anonymous
The house was easy to locate and it was right on the ocean, providing spectacular views. The entry code sent in the welcome email was incorrect so we had to call the manager to get the correct code. Once we got inside the house, everything was as described with just a few changes since the pictures on the website were taken. The kitchen was small but our party of six made it work. The new fold out sleeper couch was a bit hard so be prepared for that. We also ran out of toilet paper (we were supplied with 1.5 rolls for 6 people for 2 nights) and when we called the management office to request more, we were told that we had to supply our own. The house was clean and enough linens and towels were supplied, along with extra bedding, which was nice. There was a good selection of games/toys for kids and the TV worked well. Overall it was a nice place to stay for our group and the location was great.

Our stay at Whalepoint
by Cindra R.
The house is very cozy with spectacular views. You feel like you are on the ocean you are so close. We had a great time being lazy, watching the waves, the fishing boats, and just relaxing. The house had all the two of us needed. The only con - Renters should be aware the Wifi is weak and spotty as is the cell service.

by Alison S.
I stayed at Whale Pointe with my brother, sister-in-law and my daughter. We were all very comfortable and could watch the whales and the sea while cozy in our PJs. There were lots of whales close up, cormorants on the rocks and fantastic ocean views all day. It was so lovely we wanted to spend the afternoons "at home".

Unbelievable whale watching and views
by Anonymous
The pictures do not do the view justice and we saw an embarrassing number of whales during our stay. The whales literally come close enough to the deck to see individual barnacles on them. You can even see them fairly close up while laying in bed. Owners are friendly and respectful. On the rare occasion that no whales were visible my wife and I were awestruck by the sheer beauty of the scenery. Thank you B., B. and Farley for letting us stay at your lovely place.

Great whale watching on a great deck.
by Anonymous
The weather was nice and we had a great time hanging out on the deck watching the whales. They are close enough to hear them spout. The down sides to this rental though is it is in desperate need of maintenance. A broken window frame, a dining room chair that is ready to fall apart and a bathroom fan that if you are showering you really should wear hearing protection. The Place also needs a good cleaning more then just the surface cleaning that is being done. On arrival The up stairs carpet was covered in dog hair. No problem we have a dog and I don't mind vacuuming. Unfortunately the on site vacuuming was also full of dog hair and I had to clean that out first. If someone put some time, effort or money into this place it would be perfect! We Would love to stay here again if they do.

Whale Watching in August
by Portia B.
We really enjoyed staying here. It has great views and many gray whales were feeding around the cliffs below. Very nice patio and the residence was very nice as well. I highly recommend if you like to whale watch. The area was very nice and you were within driving distance of beach access. This does not have beach access but does have great view of sea wildlife.

Whale Pointe
by Ray Y.
We had a wonderful stay and are already planning a return. The house is ideally located to take advantage of so much that the area has to offer, but is also private and quiet and ideal for an escape from the hustle and bustle of life. The rental process was easy, the directions for checkin and departure were clear and easy to follow, the house was simple to take care of and the necessary amenities were readily available (with the exception of a hot water kettle). The view is fantastic and overall we couldn’t be happier - will be returning as soon as we can.

Our Mission was whales
by Jennifer P.
Overall, the house was great and the location top notch. We did see whales from the porch. There were some things that needed immediate attention and we called first thing but never got them fixed. For such a large house accommodating big numbers the size of the fridge was very disappointing. We came prepared to cook salmon and halibut we’d caught and we couldn’t freeze it and paid another $150 to send it home. Shower stayed hot through six people a day so that was awesome. And washer was well needed and used.

Wow, what an amazing view. We saw dozens of gray whales near the shore including a baby. The waves crashing over the rocks were also beautiful. The kitchen is small, and the bathroom could have been cleaner, but the view made up for it.

Toilet backed up at check in. Was only toilet in unit
Owners nice but unable to get fixed until about 8 pm that night
I called management company to ask about moving to a new unit. They offered full refund but absolutely no help getting alternative accommodations
Very disappointed with management companies lackluster in attempting to help.
Would not recommend this management company to renters or owners. Very unhelpful!

Incredible view, needed more information
by Susan K.
I had a wonderful time and greatly enjoyed the right on the ocean experience. There were a few technical difficulties that could have been corrected. T.v. was controlled by a light switch across the room and onsite directions didn't match remote. No available information regarding what to do in case of tsunami. There was an early morning call declaring a tsunami watch. Additional information would have eliminated both problems.
