One of the oldest aquariums on the West Coast, Seaside Aquarium was founded in 1937. Located right on the beach this privately owned facility has remained in the same family since its opening. Perhaps the most prominent attraction is feeding the harbor seals as well as a new touch tank that kids really enjoy. The aquarium is a great place to take your family for an educational and entertaining day.
The Seaside Aquarium is home to many species of marine life, including sea stars, hermit crabs, various kinds of fish, octopus, jellyfish and even some larger animals like sharks and rays. Each animal has its own special care requirements so visitors can learn more about the importance of taking proper care of our fragile ocean environment.
The Aquarium is open year-round and offers a variety of educational programs for school groups and families, such as live animal presentations, behind-the-scenes tours, interactive activities and an up close encounter with some of the sea’s most fascinating creatures. Additionally, the aquarium offers a unique opportunity for hands-on learning about marine conservation with its Seal Watch program. This includes an educational presentation on seal behavior and allows visitors to observe the playful antics of these adorable animals.
The Seaside Aquarium is proud to have one of the best collections of ocean species in the country, as well as knowledgeable and passionate staff that are always willing to help visitors learn more about the creatures on display.
